Attorney Information

Guardian ad Litem

The NEJC Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program recruits and assists volunteer GALs for Hall and Dawson County Superior Court cases where child custody and parenting time are disputed and the Court requires special assistance. GALs are appointed by the court in individual cases to serve as factfinders and to represent the best interests of the child(ren).

What does a Guardian ad Litem do?

  • GALs will interview, visit, and attend meetings with the parties/children involved in the case.
  • GALs submit their findings and recommendations to the court.
  • GALs complete follow-up assignments as ordered by the court.

How can I volunteer to be a Guardian ad Litem?

  • You must be an attorney in good standing and have an interest in serving.
  • You must complete an accepted training program.
  • Contact the NEJC GAL office at (770) 531-2463.

Courtroom Equipment

Our Jury Trial courtrooms are equipped with updated evidence presentation systems available at each attorney table. Each table includes a wired microphone, an HDMI cable, and a document camera, and all inputs displayed throughout the courtroom are controlled by the judge. The pre‑existing HoverCam podium system has been removed, and evidence is no longer presented from the podium.

  • Evidence Display
Evidence is presented from the attorney tables. The provided HDMI cable mirrors the contents of your laptop or mobile device to the courtroom displays. An adapter kit is available if your device does not have an HDMI port. If it plays on your device, it will play in the courtroom. An Elmo MX‑P3 document camera is also available at each table for displaying documents or physical items.
  • Video Display Devices
Each trial courtroom includes monitors positioned at the judge’s bench, the witness stand, and throughout the gallery for attorney, client, and public viewing.
  • Audio Equipment
Judges, witness stands, and attorney tables are equipped with table microphones that include a privacy mute button. Podiums and jury microphones use adjustable gooseneck microphones. Wireless microphones are also available upon request through the judge’s office.
