Scam Alert

NEJC Court Administration has become aware of a scam targeting the families of recently incarcerated individuals. The scammer calls friends or family of a person held at the Hall County Jail and claims to be a staff member that works with either the Hall County Sheriff’s Office or Pretrial Services. The scammer indicates to the loved one that they can assist them with starting the bond process for the arrestee by taking payment through Apple Pay, Venmo, Cash App, or some other form of electronic payment.

The victim makes a payment, thinking their loved one’s bond has been made and they can be released. In some cases, the victim finds out they’ve been scammed when their loved one calls from jail, asking for help with bond.

Please be aware that neither Pretrial Services nor the Hall County Sheriff’s Office will call to solicit payment of a bond by phone. This process is completed at the Hall County Jail.
